1. Introduction

As Korea’s role as a global leader continues to grow at the outset of the 21st

century, so does the role of Korean language education. Due in part to a growing

diaspora, the geographic range in which Korean is spoken has extended well beyond

the Korean peninsula. Each wave of émigrés brings a desire to provide language

education, not only to serve the community’s children, but also to respond to ever

increasing recognition of Korea’s growing economic, political, and cultural status............
